DO THESE PICTURES LOOK FAMILIAR? Have you ever wondered why horses misbehave? An old adage says "No horse is born bad, he is made bad!" And here lies the answer. There is no such thing as a problem horse, only bad, or inappropriate training. THE
WAY HORSES ARE TRAINED |

DID YOU KNOW that horses used to be as safe, sensible and reliable, and as easy to ride and handle as you could ever want them to be? They had to be. Along with other uses (such as rounding up cattle - which they still do and cattle horses don't mess about either) the horse was a form of transport for getting from A to B. And in the days when horses were used for work and transport, they were universally well-behaved! SIMPLY SAFE! In those days and for what might be called 'general purpose riding', horses were only given a very basic training. They were simply trained to respond to what are now called "the simple aids". The simple aids mean using the reins to slow down, stop and turn and the legs to go forward and/or go faster ... and nothing else. Just tell him what to do and leave him to get on with it. Likewise, this is all riders were ever taught to do. Learning to ride was never easier - OR SAFER! |
